Like Lebron…I’m just another kid from Akron (Ohio).
What’s on your iPod right now?
Wow…a little bit of everything, from Crowder, Lauren Daigle, Jesus Culture and Passion to CCR, Zeppelin, Johnny Cash and Steve Miller Band. My most recent playlist includes Mumford and Sons, the Lumineers, Vance Joy and Eddie Vedder
What is your favorite snack?
I have a sweet tooth for sure, making Reese’s Pieces, Peanut Butter M&M’s and Sour Patch Kids the tops on my snack list!
Name a few of the most formative books you’ve read?
Watchman Nee’s The Normal Christian Life; Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline; John Eldridge’s Wild at Heart; and Jim Cymbala’s Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire. Plus so many more…
What inspires you?
Seeing someone willing to pay a steep price in order to honor God and accomplish great things. Self-sacrifice for love’s sake, rigorous discipline and a heart for Jesus blesses me every time!
What brought you to Grace Community?
Jesus. He calls us to “follow” him and my family and I left Asheville, NC because Jesus was leading us to Nicholasville, KY.
What have you appreciated most about Grace Community Naz?
Our name says it all…we are a “Community of Grace” and as a congregation we are working to flesh that vision out; beginning with lots of prayer! Our church is planted right in the middle of this really great neighborhood just ripe for the Gospel! And Grace Community is a congregation of people with open arms to everyone around us! I love that about us.
I was “churched” as a young child and I’m grateful for the effort my parents made to teach me prayers like the Lord’s Prayer and the 23rd Psalm. But as I got older, my family began participating in activities on Sundays that pulled us away from Church life. By the time I was a teenager I was completely immersed in my own self and took off down a path that led to broken relationships, legal troubles and personal addictions.
I joined the Army straight out of High School and while shining on the outside as a good soldier, I felt rotten and empty on the inside. With more poor decisions came more trouble and I hit a bottom. Thank God for those Gospel seeds sown into my heart at a young age! At my lowest point I found myself sitting in a parking lot and I looked up and prayed, “Lord, help!” It was as if the hand of my Heavenly Father were reaching down and I heard Him say, “son, I’ve been waiting here all along for you to look up.” At that moment, I began looking to God to do for me what I could not do for myself and one day at a time I began to follow Jesus’ lead as best I knew how.
God has always been faithful to put people into my life to teach me new things about Him and about how to approach life in healthy ways and I’ve been on this journey ever since. You never could’ve told me then that I’d be a Pastor today…but when you follow Jesus, you’re liable to get into anything! I can assure you, difficult as things may be at times, following Jesus is so worth it!
Today I have a wife of 16 years and two amazing kids! We’re grateful to be where we are and we anticipate a mighty move of GOD in our community as we continue to intercede and reach out as a “Community of Grace for all”. Come join us and see where Jesus will lead you!
